Mixed-Media Portraits

The idea of 'painting with fabric' led to the development of this mixed-media technique. The portrait image is created through the combination of materials alone, without the use of paint.

Torn lengths of fabric are woven through thousands of eyelets, which are screwed into the back panel. The image is then built up like a dot-to-dot allowing the combinations of colours and textures to create the effect.

This portrait was created in memory of the late Duke of Bedford, hung in the Duke's Corridor at Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire.
