Constructed from 25mm thick acrylic, 40 Winks plays on the relationship between 'chair' and 'sitter', whereby the chair's role as an object in which to sit or sometimes doze-off, becomes visually interpreted through the literal and surreal form of a figure, sitting, slumped back and relaxed.
By itself the chair appears inhabited but on a larger scale, a group of these chairs appear to populate and inhabit an environment, while their relaxed and slumbered posture aim to evoke a sense of calm and tranquility.
Exhibited at Aquascutum, Regent Street, 2008.
