Big Smoke is a concept piece, following the request from Design Week to submit my idea if I was to exhibit on Anthony Gormley's Trafalgar Plinth.
Referencing London's blackened buildings and it's prevailing nick-name, 'Big Smoke' would be a collaboration with engineers, to create a series of powerful suction fans capable of extracting and distilling vehicle fumes, which would be positioned at one end of the plinth - or preferably along the adjacent roadside-intersection.
Fuelling a pressurised airbrush with the resulting polluted medium, I would paint a large-scale impression of the London landscape from the plinth's unique vantage point. The final piece would visually resemble an ink drawing whilst physically demonstrating the city's historical and ongoing pollution problem.
